On 28th September, we welcomed the parents and guardians of our selected students from the 2025 MakeME cohort to our Parents’ Evening.
Project Director Joanne Sweeney opened the evening with an overview of GEMX and the MakeME Academy, highlighting what the students have been involved in so far and giving an insight into the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
The group also heard from Leanne Mullin, Employer Liaison Officer at NWRC, who works closely with apprentices throughout their education journey. Leanne shared valuable information on apprenticeships and the opportunities available to young people, before the evening concluded with a Q&A session.
Over the coming year, our MakeME students have lots to look forward to, including:
- Company visits and activities with their partnered companies
- Experience Days at Ulster University and NWRC, where they will take part in practical activities across areas such as mechanical engineering and robotics
- Masterclasses designed to build confidence, develop new skills and prepare students for their future
- The MakeME Graduation, hosted in the Guildhall and attended by the Mayor, where we will celebrate the students’ achievements throughout the programme
