On 8 July, GEMX proudly hosted its Summer 2026 Engineering Experience Day, an exciting event designed to introduce children and families to the world of engineering and advanced manufacturing. Building on the success of the GEMX North West Interactive Roadshow, the event brought a range of engaging engineering-focused activities to a younger audience, inspiring the next generation of engineers, makers and innovators while showcasing the exciting opportunities available within the sector.

Hosted at North West Regional College (NWRC), Springtown, and supported by a number of leading engineering and manufacturing companies from across the North West, the event provided a unique opportunity for families to explore the industries that play such an important role in the local economy. Through interactive displays, demonstrations and practical activities, participants gained a greater understanding of the exciting opportunities available within engineering and manufacturing careers.

Throughout the day, children were encouraged to design, build, test and create through a wide variety of hands-on experiences. Activities included:

  • Robotics demonstrations and interactive challenges
  • Bridge-building activities that the whole family could test and enjoy
  • Building an electric car
  • Immersive virtual reality experiences
  • Welding demonstrations and hands-on engineering activities
  • Rocket building and launching
  • And many more exciting activities

The event created an energetic and engaging atmosphere, with children and parents alike enjoying the opportunity to experience engineering in a fun, accessible and interactive way. By connecting young people with real-world engineering concepts and the companies behind them, the day showcased the diverse and rewarding careers available within the sector.

The Engineering Experience Day proved to be a resounding success, attracting enthusiastic feedback from attendees. One parent described the event as “so inspiring, such an amazing event,” while another commented, “superb day – very encouraging for my daughter.” Such positive feedback highlights the importance of introducing young people to engineering and manufacturing from an early age and helping them see the possibilities these industries can offer.

GEMX would like to thank North West Regional College, the participating companies, volunteers and families whose support helped make the event such a success. Through initiatives like the Engineering Experience Day, GEMX continues to inspire the next generation of engineers, helping to build awareness of the exciting opportunities available across the North West’s thriving engineering and manufacturing sector.
