Following a busy start to 2026, GEMX recently brought together its Steering Group for the March meeting—marking eight weeks since our last session and offering a valuable moment to reflect on everything that’s been happening across the network. With strong engagement from industry, education, and regional partners, the meeting highlighted the continued momentum behind advanced manufacturing and engineering in the Northwest.

To capture just how much has happened in a short space of time, we’ve pulled together a short video showcasing the past eight weeks across GEMX—from events and engagements to on-the-ground activity with partners and students. It’s a reflection of the people, projects, and partnerships driving the network forward—and a reminder that 2026 is already well underway.

The main agenda item for this meeting was a discussion on the developments of the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster proposal which GEMX is working towards along with MEGA and MTF. Mary Meehan from Meehan Associates is facilitating the work which is progressing well and will lead to a feasibility study being presented to InvestNI later this year. GEMX members made some valid points which Mary will present to a cross-network meeting later this month. An overall structure for the governance and functionality of the supercluster is evolving, reflecting learnings from the Basque Region Study Visit while also aiming to support the existing networks and promoting exchange of best practice and collaboration.

The meeting also focused on shaping the next phase of activity—building on recent progress and ensuring the network continues to deliver meaningful impact for its members. From strengthening collaboration to identifying new opportunities, the conversation was forward-looking, with a shared focus on maintaining energy and direction across the year ahead.
