On the 25th of September, we proudly hosted the MakeME Academy Launch at the Waterfoot Hotel, Derry. The event brought 14 local schools and companies under one roof, with inspiring keynote speakers including Stephen Kelly, Gavin Killeen, Alistair Cameron, Jennifer Neff, Brendan McGinn, and the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council.

With the support of Derry City and Strabane District Council, The James Kane Foundation, and The Royal Academy of Engineering, and our partners, we are able to deliver a real impact and build brighter futures for these young students. The atmosphere was brilliant, with lots of interaction and discussion amongst attendees. We are thrilled to say it was a successful event with lots of positive feedback being received.

Michael Wilson, Chair of the James Kane Foundation, has said, “The James Kane Foundation is committed to advancing education, skills, and career opportunities, and is delighted to be supporting this initiative.”

This programme is built on a simple yet powerful idea: a company adopts a school. Pupils will be able to gain real-world insights whilst broadening their horizons. Companies have the opportunity to connect with future talent and schools may strengthen their ties with industry. Together, we are unlocking potential and investing in our community’s future in the engineering and manufacturing sector.
